$1,500 MCREA Scholarship - Joshua Metherd, Wiggins High School
Josh has maintained a 4.0 grade point average in his tenure at Wiggins High School, and has been ranked first in his class all four years. He has an extensive list of leadership skills to his credit, including being active in Student Council, National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, Family Career and Community Leaders of America, and the FFA, as well as lettering in varsity football, basketball, baseball, and track for the Tigers. Josh says that he plans to attend the University of Denver, Johnson and Wales or University of Colorado at Boulder and earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Advertising and Marketing. His long term goal is to work as a Marketing/Advertising Executive for a major sports franchise. When not working on his family’s farm, Josh enjoys playing golf, the guitar and the harmonica. His parents are Chris and LaVonne Metherd from Wiggins. |

$1,000 MCREA Scholarship – Kelsey Heupel, Weldon Valley High School
Kelsey has also maintained a 4.0 grade point average and is ranked first in her class at Weldon Valley High School. In addition to being placed on the Straight “A” Honor Roll each year and named to the National Honor Society, she was selected as Weldon Valley’s Female Athlete of the Year as a junior, served as the varsity volleyball co-captain her junior and senior years, and co-captain of her varsity basketball team as a sophomore and junior, achieving CHSAA Academic All-State for basketball last year. Kelsey has been very active in FFA, achieving the State Degree last year. She participated in the District and State FFA Floriculture contests as both a sophomore and junior, achieving top individual in last year’s contests. Kelsey’s other extra-curricular activities include 4-H, Student Council and FBLA. Kelsey plans to attend Colorado State University to pursue a Horticulture Degree with an emphasis on Floriculture. Her parents are Kurt and Carol Heupel from Weldona.

$1,000 MCREA Scholarship – Adam Goss, Brush High School
Adam, also ranked first in his class with a cumulative 4.0 GPA, has been active with Student Council for the last four years, currently serving as Student Body Co-President. Adam is a three year participant in the Morgan/Washington Bi-County Science Fair, and was a Colorado Finalist last year at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has also been active on the Brush High School Knowledge Bowl team, Jazz Ensemble, Concert Band, Concert Choir, Chess Club, and French Club. Adam has also lettered in both Cross Country and Track for the Beetdiggers. When not busy with school and community, he is employed at Bunker Hill Country Club. His volunteer work has focused somewhat on our community’s elderly; including playing music and making Valentine’s for residents of nursing homes. Adam plans to attend Colorado State University and double major in music and computer science. His parents are Thomas and Cathy Goss from Brush. |

$1,000 Basin Electric Scholarship – Richelle Fritzler, Merino High School
A 3.98 GPA student, Richelle has served as her Class President all four years of high school, as well as president of FCCLA and FBLA at Merino High School her senior year. She has also been active in National Honor Society, the LPAA Knowledge Bowl and FFA. She was selected as Prom Queen as a junior and Homecoming Royalty Attendant her senior year. Richelle was MVP of her varsity volleyball team her junior and senior years, earning All Conference for three years and All State Honorable Mention her last two. She also achieved All Conference and All State Honorable Mention her junior year in varsity basketball. Richelle is a nine year participant in the Lucky Clovers 4-H Club and the Saint Anthony Catholic Youth Group for two years. When not working with her parents Don and Mary Jane Fritzler on their family farm in Atwood, she babysat for a paraplegic mother with a small child. Richelle plans to attend Colorado School of Mines or Northeastern Junior College, majoring in Business and Economics. |

$500 Tri-State Generation Scholarship – Ashtyn Rohn, Wiggins High School
Ashtyn, daughter of Kevin and Janet Rohn of Wiggins, is a four year honor roll student at Wiggins High School with a 3.88 grade point average. Class President her junior and senior years, Ashtyn has also been active in FBLA, FCCLA, National Honor Society, band, journalism, and Student Council. She participated in the Colorado Academic Decathlon for three years; with the team placing first in the Small Schools category at the Colorado state competition the last two years. Upon her graduation, Ashtyn will be presented with Academic Honors. In addition to academic achievements, she also competed in volleyball and track for four years, basketball for two and indoor track for one. Ashtyn has been active in the community, participating in Relay for Life and was selected to attend Girl’s State in Gunnison. Her work experience outside school includes working for Kurtz and Peckham Law Firm in downtown Denver, and as a child care provider. Ashtyn plans to attend Morgan Community College after graduation, where she will enter college as a sophomore, and pursue a career in nursing. |

$500 Tri-State Generation Scholarship – Jase Powell, Prairie High School
Jase has been very active as a student and member of his community while maintaining a 3.798 cumulative GPA. He has been most active in FFA, serving as Chapter President his senior year and Cache La Poudre District Reporter as a junior. Jase was the Colorado State Winner in the Turf/Grass Management Proficiency Award, receiving a Gold Award nationally. He competed at the district level in the Creed, Prepared and Extemporaneous Speaking Contests, receiving a Silver Award in each. An Honor Roll student his entire high school career, Jase is currently serving as Class Vice President. His volunteer activities include planting trees with Pheasants Forever and selling snow cones at the Weld County Fair. Outside of school and volunteer activities, Jase has worked at Miller’s Landscaping Materials & Feed in Fort Morgan since 2006 and owned and operated his own small lawn care business from 2004 to the present. Jase plans to enroll at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling to pursue a career in livestock breeding and genetics. His parents are Walt and Karla Powell of Fort Morgan. |
