Becoming a Member

There is a $5.00 non-refundable membership application fee to become a member of Morgan County Rural Electric Association. When the applicant pays the fee, signs an electrical service agreement, and upon receipt of electrical service, a new member is given the privilege of voting and participating in the Association’s operation. A new member
agrees:

  • to pay all charges for electric service used at the applicable rate, and
  • to comply with the articles, bylaws, amendments, and all rules and regulations as may be adopted by the Association.

Memberships can be held jointly, and any provisions relating to the rights and liabilities of membership shall apply equally with respect to the holders of a joint membership. Only one holder of a joint account may vote and/or hold a cooperative office. Only one membership is allowed despite the number of accounts a member may have, and memberships are not transferable.

Each year, MCREA holds an annual meeting in March to which all members are invited to attend. The primary purpose of the annual meeting is to elect new directors as their terms expire. Other business conducted at the meeting are annual reports on the state of the co-op and its financial condition.

Every month the member is mailed the MCREA newsletter in the Colorado Country Life magazine. We recommend that members read the newsletter for information about the coop. In addition, when a policy decision is made by the board of directors, an Update is published and mailed to each member.
