Line Worker Scholarships
Morgan County Rural Electric is proud to offer Line Worker Scholarships to assist individuals in establishing a career in the power industry.
This year, MCREA awarded two $7,500 scholarships for line work school the following fall. Qualified applicants must reside in our service territory, which includes Morgan County and portions of Logan, Weld, Adams, and Washington counties. Accredited line worker school tuition and fees start at about $3,800, which will allow the scholarship winner to use the remaining funds for living and/or working expenses.
An electrical line worker performs many different tasks, including climbing poles or operating aerial lift devices to work on overhead lines 25 to 200 feet above the ground, erecting substations, or digging trenches to string underground electric cable.
MCREA estimates that an Apprentice Line Worker can typically expect a starting wage of $15 to $18 per hour, with a Journeyman earning anywhere from $26 to $32 per hour. Typically, line workers also receive medical insurance, a pension plan, life insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
