Requirements:

  • Minimum qualifying load is 1 kw on resistive heat, ETS, and heat pump installations.

  • Applies only to permanent heating installations (no plug-in heaters).

  • Resistance heat credit applies only to new installations. Heat pump and ETS credits apply to new and replacement installations.

  • Application for payment must be completed within 180 days of installation.

  • Energy audit required, which will be done by an MCREA Employee at no cost to the homeowner.

Efficiency Standards:

  • Space being heated must meet efficiency standards defined as the sum of the "R" values of the ceiling and wall insulation:

    • Existing building - Sum of 30

    • New building - Sum of 49

  • Efficiency standards applicable to heat pumps:

    • Air Source: SEER 12.0 or HSPF 7.4

    • Ground Source: EER 11.0 or COP 2.8
